Local Issues

Tenant participation - from a Forum to an Association!

On Wednesday, 24 June we held our first online Tenants Forum, giving residents a chance to talk directly to staff from Homes for Lambeth and Pinnacle Housing Management about their concerns.

Many thanks to those tenants who attended

– despite some technical issues with Skype, we had a really useful conversation, giving us plenty to take back and work on for the future.

We now want to go further and set up a proper tenant participation structure on the estate in the form of a Tenants’ Association.

This will be a forum led by tenants  themselves where you can discuss with us all your concerns and your ideas for improving services in the future. We also want tenants  to get involved in;

  • reviewing our performance
  • working with us to set our priorities for the future, and
  • making sure we provide the best possible services to all our residents

Residents’ Forum

We will set up another Forum shortly at which we can agree terms of reference, times of meetings, etc.

As well as the meetings we want to offer other ways of feeding back to us using  online surveys and other quick/smart means of communication, so that all tenants get a chance to be part of the conversation.

If you are interested intaking part please contact John Knight on 07949 208610 or john@homesforlambeth.co.uk

Coronavirus Impact Survey

A big thank you to all the tenants who completed our online survey.

We had a very good response and will be looking at all the answers to  help us  plan for the future, both in terms of offering more support in the current situation and learning lessons for how we can respond to similar events in future.

As  you are aware COVID-19 is still very much with us, despite all the steps which have been taken to allow us more freedom – please continue to stay safe and follow social distancing, especially when indoors.

ESOL Classes

English for speakers of other languages classes are underway. Please share with friends and family who may benefit.

Working with the Stockwell Partnership, our ESOL classes are on Tuesday evenings from  6 to 7pm. The sessions will focus on topics that residents want to discuss and the ways in which they wish to improve on their language skills. To find out more and sign up, visit engage.homesforlambeth.co.uk/esol for these friendly and relaxed classes.

New Weekly Phone Drop-Ins

Due to the current pandemic that has affected everyone and made life quite unpredictable, Homes for Lambeth will be starting a new weekly phone drop-in for residents to share any problems you may be experiencing.

The service will also provide information  about HfL’s employment and training scheme, arts, crafts, and healthy activities such as yoga, and if required, we can guide you to a welfare advisor.

The weekly drop-in will start on Monday, 27 July 2020 between 4 to 6 pm.

Housing Management Update

Repairs and maintenance at Lollard Street

As the restrictions from the virus have been easing we have been reviewing how we run our services and making some changes to reflect this.

Routine repairs are now being carried out again, and we are working through the backlog of those that were reported when we were only dealing with emergencies. We are also completing the visits to all properties to check the heating installations as it’s important to make sure this is working properly as the autumn and winter get closer.

Necessary work such as checking the safety of the electrical equipment and the sprinkler system in the tower block have continued, and all these `compliance’ checks are up to date.

All contractors visiting Lollard Street have committed to working in a `COVID-19 secure’ fashion and following the government’s guidance on working safely in people’s homes.

For more information see the guidance here;

Your Homes for Lambeth

Hello,

My name is Eamonn Lorimer. I’ve just joined Homes for Lambeth as Social Investment Programme Co-ordinator (employability, apprenticeships, skills & training).

My main responsibility is to develop and ensure that Lambeth residents and  particularly  those of you living on a Homes for Lambeth estate, like here, have apprenticeship, job and training opportunities resulting from our work and plans.

Professionally, I have worked in Lambeth for the last two and half years on employability matters including apprenticeships, work experience and most recently helping Lambeth Residents benefit from construction industry opportunities. And personally, I am the Chair of my Local Residents Association (RA) and appreciate how important it is for resident’s views to be heard by their Local Authorities.

I am passionate about making a positive difference in people’s lives. I’m looking forward to developing partnerships where contractors, HfL and residents work together for the benefit of the community and each other.

Oh and when I’m not working and chairing my local RA, I am a DJ playing on two internet radio stations.

If you interested in any forthcoming apprenticeship, employability and work experience opportunities, please feel free to get in touch with me.
