Digital Life Skills Programme

Homes for Lambeth have teamed up with Clear Community Web to offer you a series of talks and presentations designed to help you feel more confident and informed about the internet. Over the course of the programme we will cover subjects such as your safety online, how to buy online, accessing services, getting better deals and knowing your rights. 

Each talk will be presented online and a factsheet will be available to download or by email afterwards. Attendees will be able to book for a one to one session during the week after if they need help with something specific about the topic. These sessions are aimed at residents who are new to the internet or who may want to brush up on their skills and fill in some gaps.

  • Staying safe online. Saturday 06 February 2021 at 11 am 

An overview of some of the common risks and how to overcome them with examples and practical advice. We will cover keeping your device up to date, antivirus, being smart online, common scams, email scams and password security. 

  • Comparison websites – getting smart about your bills. Saturday 20 February 2021 at 11 am 

Using comparison websites is a smart way to research better prices for everyday bills – from utilities, water, telephone and insurance. This is a great way of taking control over the amount you pay, the internet is a great way to do this. We cover some of the main websites, how to search, how to filter and what your rights are. We will focus this session on energy bills. 

  • Improving your job search online. Saturday 6 March 2021 at 11 am

We will go through some of the tools and skills you will need to help your job search online and give yourself a better chance of employment. We will cover using online office tools such as Word, Google Docs, Grammarly and Zety to manage your job search and create a library of CVs and covering letters. 

  • Making online payments safely. Saturday 20 March 2021 at 11 am

We will cover how to pay for goods and services online, what to look out for and how safe it is. We will look at PayPal and Stripe as well as covering the Consumer Credit Act and your rights. 

  • Managing money online. Saturday 3 April 2021 at 11 am

We will explore some of the different ways you can do banking online from your computer or mobile phone, including how to set it up and how safe it is. We will also cover internet-only banking as well as some other money management apps.

  • Using the Lambeth Council Website, Part 1 - Saturday 17 April 2021 at 11 am

We will give you a tour of the key sections and features of the Lambeth Council Website for residents. We will cover creating an account, paying council tax and ordering other services. 

  • Using the Lambeth Council Website, Part 2 - Saturday 1 May 2021 at 11 am

We continue our tour of the Lambeth Council website, taking you through the other services available to residents and civic engagement.
